Clients/Funders: North Carolina Wetlands Restoration Program

Client Type: Government

Description: Restoration of 9,500+/- linear feet of stream and 95+/- acres of wetland for water quality and habitat protection and improvement.

Services: Hydrologic, hydraulic, sediment transport, and water quality modeling; water quality sampling and monitoring; stream gauging; population and development change trending analysis; GIS development; jurisdictional waters delineations; environmental permitting and regulatory coordination; site surveying; erosion control design; grading design; planting design.

Overview

The restoration site is located on a large agriculture field on Fort Bragg Army Base, within the recently acquired Overhills area in Harnett County, North Carolina. Several streams, including Jumping Run Creek, have been diverted and straightened to allow agriculture to take place onsite. Extra ditches as well as tile drains were also installed to drain the field. A mixture of "Priority One" and "Priority Two" stream restoration will be undertaken, rerouting Jumping Run Creek across the middle of the field to give it a more natural Coastal Plain stream pattern and profile. The tributaries will also be restored as they are brought across the site to rejoin  the new location of  Jumping Run Creek. Wetlands will be restored across the site by both grading and raising the subsurface hydrology nearer to the surface. Native vegetation will be planted across the site with denser plantings within the buffers along the new stream locations.
